Guidelines

1.0 ELIGIBILITY

The PAM Student Awards are open to all Malaysian architectural graduates completing their respective course of studies in and within year 2018 in the following categories.


PAM Silver Medal
Part 2 (completing 5 years architectural education) is open to:

  • Malaysian Part 2 graduates, successfully completed a Masters Architecture course or Bachelor of Architecture course or other equivalent architecture course in Malaysia or overseas, as determined by the Convenor.
  • Applicants have completed their studies and all course requirements at that level within the 2018 calendar year. A letter from the school confirming the student has graduated is required as part of the submission.
    Note: In some instances, some graduates attend graduation ceremonies in the year after but for the purpose of this Awards, eligibility will mean completion of all coursework in the relevant year specified.
  • Current PAM member (student or graduate category), or have applied as PAM member (PAM student membership is free).

PAM Bronze Medal
Part 1 (completing 3 years architectural education) is open to:

  • Malaysian nationality Part 1 graduates, successfully completed a Bachelor of Science of Architecture course, a Bachelor of Arts of Architecture, or any other equivalent architecture course in Malaysia or overseas, as determined by the Convenor.
  • Applicants have completed their studies and all course requirements at that level within the 2018 calendar year. A letter from the school confirming the student has graduated is required as part of the submission.
    Note: In some instances, some graduates attend graduation ceremonies in the year after but for the purpose of this Awards, eligibility will mean completion of all coursework in the relevant year specified.
  • Current PAM member (student or graduate category), or have applied as PAM member (PAM student membership is free).

2.0 GENERAL CONDITIONS

  • All materials submitted must be declared to be solely the work of the participant as the rightful author.
  • Entries not in compliance with the formats required, or incomplete, or submitted beyond the published deadlines for submission, will be disqualified.
  • In Stage One, all entries (except for the mandatory completed Entry Form and affirmation letter from respective schools) are to be anonymous and the participants name, tutor/supervisor’s name, and the name of School of Architecture / University are strictly not to be published or indicated in the design portfolio and any accompanying supporting materials.
  • Shortlisted entrants may be required to submit additional materials when requested for publication in prescribed formats and resolution.
  • All materials submitted may be collected by participants at a notified time, or by arrangement, be returned back to the participants at their own costs after the full process is completed.
  • All submission materials remain the intellectual property of the authors, and PAM and the Benefactor reserves the rights to publish the materials in any PAM media or any other media authorized by PAM, to promote or publicise the PAM Student Medals, without payment to any party.
  • Participants or their representatives shall strictly under no circumstances contact or attempt to contact any Jury members. Any participants found doing so shall be disqualified.
  • There is no fee for participating.
  • The selected shortlisted Finalists are to present the design project in person, or via video-conference if unable to attend. Failure to participate in the Stage 2 Jury interviews will result in disqualification.
  • All participants, as a condition of entry, shall accept the Jury Panel’s decision as Final.

3.0 SUBMISSION PROCEDURES

Stage One (Shortlist):

  • Each entrant to submit the completed Entry Form and a portfolio containing one (1) architectural design projects undertaken within an Architecture course (Part 1 or Part 2 or equivalent) for judging.
  • Each design portfolio must be described and presented in not more than thirty (30) A3-sized pages in pdf format (maximum 30MB). It should contain all relevant research, theoretical, contextual and historical analysis, design development, technical studies, sustainability planning, etc., to demonstrate a complete and thorough project for judging.
  • All submissions must be made electronically, or via file transfer service or downloadable link, if exceeding 15MB maximum email size, to the designated email address pamstudentmedal@pam.org.my.
  • Alternatively, a CD-rom containing the above submission requirements may be submitted in person or by recorded mail or courier to PAM Centre.
  • All submissions will receive an anonymous Identity Code. All submissions will be recorded and receipt of submission will be issued to each participant.
  • Up to five (5) finalists for Part 2 level and five (5) finalists for Part 1 level programmes will be selected by the Awards Jury for Stage Two.

Stage Two (Final):

  • Each Finalist will be allowed to submit additional materials (pdf portfolio max 40 pages, physical models, and any other medias for eg. video file not exceeding 5 minutes, etc.) if the applicant wishes to do so by the date stated.
  • All submissions must be made electronically, or via file transfer service or downloadable link, if exceeding 15mb maximum email size, to the designated email address pamstudentmedal@pam.org.my
  • Alternatively, a CD-rom containing the above submission requirements may be submitted in person or by recorded mail or courier to PAM Centre.
  • All submissions will be recorded and receipt of submission will be issued to each participant.
  • The selected shortlisted Finalists are to present the design project in person, or via video-conference if unable to attend.

4.0 MEDALS & PRIZE MONIES

PAM Silver Medal

  • The Award Winner: Silver Medal, Prize Money of RM 25,000 and Certificate
  • First Runner-up Prize: Prize Money of RM 12,000 and Certificate
  • Second Runner-up Prize: Prize Money of RM 8,000 and Certificate
  • Two Honorary Mentions Finalists: Prize Money RM 3,500 and Certificate each

PAM Bronze Medal

  • The Award Winner: Bronze Medal, Prize and Travel Grant value RM 8,000 and Certificate
  • Up to 4 Award Finalists: Prize Money of RM 2,500 and Certificate each

Note :
All entries (except for mandatory completed Entry Form) are to be anonymous and candidates name, tutor/supervisor’s name, and the name of School of Architecture / University are not to be mentioned in the design portfolio and any accompanying supporting materials.

About the award

The PAM Student Awards seeks to promote scholarship, innovation, merit and excellence in the youth towards the study of architecture. It also demonstrates the commitment and investment of both PAM and the Benefactor towards architectural design excellence.
